The ACT girls team had their hopes of a Championship victory dashed in the last seconds of the game, after having lead for the entire match.

ACT had their best start to a game yet, flying to an 8:4 lead midway into the first half, after Mariel Soulard and Alice Keighley scored three goals each.

Alice also had the toughest job in the game, marking up NSW dangerous shooter Laura Ridley and keeping her to only three goals in the game.

The ACT boys have put in another strong performance in the final game of the series but fell short of a victory against NSW, going down 21:14, this morning in Coffs Harbour.

ACT was in the game for most of the first half, going goal-for-goal with NSW after Dilpreet Singh opened the scoring for the game. ACT then, as it had in previous games, suffered a lapse in concentration letting in 5 consecutive goals just before the break, to end the half at 7:11.

NSW overcame ACT in the last of the preliminary games (6:4) but the game was trivial only, as both teams had already advanced into the Championship final, being played later today.

ACT now has a couple of hours to re-group before the decisive game.

NSW defeated CT 6:4 (5:4) – for ACT Ellen Kromar (GK), Alice Keighley (2 goals), Mariel Soulard, Esther Soulard (1), Holly Tupper, Alexandra Hollard, Gemma Coleman (1) and Rebecca Hingley.

NSW had no trouble defeating Queensland in the final game of the day

The NSW girls defeated Queensland 18:5 (9:2 at the break) to cap of a busy day of handball and an undefeated day for NSW teams.
The premier handball state had no trouble overcoming a less experience Queensland team, holding them to only 2 goals at the break.

NSW centre Laura Ridley was best on the court, top scoring again with 7 goals.

The teams will now get together for the customary Championship dinner and socialising.

NSW has taken the best of five series from ACT, after their third successive win in the dual, this time with a five-goal margin 17:12 (8:6 at the break).

NSW left-handed back, Lachlan Skulander again proved difficult to contain for ACT, with his impressive break-through attempts. The strong back scored 5 more goals to help his team to a comfortable win.

Brent Irvine stood out for ACT in this game, from the left wing position and was supported well by a strong performance from Jacob Patton. The pivot scoring 3 goals.

Convincing win puts ACT girls into the Championship final

ACT girls have secured a spot in tomorrow’s National Championships final with a convincing 23:12 victory over Queensland in Coffs Harbour, this afternoon.

ACT had already beaten Queensland earlier today, 14:12 but needed to win this game to make the final against NSW, who is undefeated so far.
Again, the scores were tied for a long time, and Queensland lead 6:5 at one stage but a change in defence started to pay-off for ACT almost immediately.

Successive saves by goalkeeper Ellen Kromar, set the scene for her team-mates to go on a 9:1 scoring spree.

A six-zero spree by NSW’s attack, in the last five minutes of the game, ended ACT’s hopes of a win in the second game of the series between the teams. NSW winning 20:15, in a much improved showing for the ACT boys.

Up until then, the teams went goal for goal and at one stage it looked like ACT was going to run-away with the lead, when Dilpreet Singh broke through in the wing to put ACT in the lead at 15:14. Though, that also was the last goal of the match for ACT.

ACT girls team went down to NSW, 11:15 (6:6 at the break) in their second game of the tournament.

The teams traded goals for most of the first half, and continued well into the second half, but with less than ten minutes left in play, NSW scored 4 unanswered goals to take a commanding lead. The game finished off as it started, goal for goal, but not enough for ACT to narrow the four-goal margin.

Mariel Soulard and Holly Tupper top-scored for ACT with 5 and 4 goals respectively, whilst Laura Ridley scored 5 for NSW.
NSW now leads the table with two wins, followed by ACT with one win.

NSW girls were convincing in their victory against Queensland, 15:9 (4:4) in the second game of the three-state tournament.

Both teams struggled to score goals in the first half, locked at 4:4 at the break. NSW though was quick of the mark in the second half, going on a 7:1 scoring run.

NSW's Laura Ridley top-scored in the match with 5 goals. NSW will now play ACT to determine the competition leader at the end of the first round of competition.

ACT’s boys went down (9:22) to NSW in the first out of five scheduled matches between the teams, this morning.

ACT rallied well in the first ten minutes, trailing by 6:4, after Harjodh Singh and Luke Behrendorff combined to score successive goals.

However, a strong start to the second half by NSW, caught ACT by surprise and trailing by ten, early in the second half, after letting in five unanswered goals.

From then on, NSW maintained the pressure, making the less experienced ACT side work hard for their goals.

ACT girls off to a winnning start

ACT girls defeated Queensland 14:12 in the opening match of the u16 National Championships, in Coffs Harbour this morning.

ACT took a strong lead early on, through creative use of pivot Holly Tupper. A succession of missed penalty then put Queensland in the game at 10 all.

As both teams struggled to take control, Alexandra Hollard stepped up to score two vital goals for ACT, securing the win for her team.

Queensland pulls boys team

With only 24 hours to the start of the Nationals, Queensland has pulled their boys team out of the National Championships.

No official reason has been provided yet but this leaves NSW and ACT to contest the title. The winner will be decided in best of 5 matches.

ACT teams arrive in Coffs Harbour

After a strenuous ten and a half hour drive, the ACT contingent was rewarded with a glorious sunny day as they pulled into Coffs Harbour at 8 am this morning.

After sorting out room arrangements and distributing luggage into the accommodation, both the Men's and Women's teams enjoyed a filling breakfast before embarking for a swim at the local beach.

ACTHA announces first ever u16 teams

ACTHA is proud to announce their first ever u16 teams, competing at the 2009 National Championships, this weekend in Coffs Harbour. The athletes have been selected from a number of schools in the region.

Included in the boys’ team is the talented left-wing Kerry Olesen and goalkeeper Brody O’Brien, who have both made appearances with Canberra's senior team in the NSW League, this season.

In the girls team, the exciting player to watch will be Mariel Soulard. Mariel started her first handball steps in France and will lead the team as the most experienced player.

ACT youth teams ready for the National Championships

ACT’s youth teams have been undergoing final preparations before their trip to Coffs Harbour, on Thursday, to compete in the Australian u16 National Championships.

This will be the first time the ACT has participated at national level in this age group.
