A surprising win over Western Australia

ACT left back Andrew Hunter attacks during his team's surprise win over WA

ACT goalkeeper Curtis Eitzen has inspired the ACT Men to their second win of the Championships, placing the team into the National Championships semi-final after upsetting the home team, Western Australia, 19:16 at Joodalup arena today (7:8at the break).

The 20 year-old heldback repeated attempts at goal by WA, keeping a clean-sheet for a period of 15 minutes in the second-half.

Western Australia, fielding former ACT star Maciej Krawczyk, took a two-goal lead early on in the game but ACT fought hard to stay in close contention.

The home team went into the break with a one-goal lead but soon after suffered a major blow when Krawczyk was pulled-out with a knee-injury.

ACT transformed their defence in the second half, shutting down the goal for a period of 15 minutes, and building a four goal lead with ten minutes left in play.  19 year old Callum Mouncey, playing for the first time at a National Championships was strong in defence holding-out WA’s Daniel Svensson who caused so much trouble in the first half.

For ACT Xavier Orsatti and Zlatan Ivankovic top scored with 8 and 4 goals, respectively.

With this win, the ACT will avoid a clash against favourites NSW before the grand final.
