Canberra secures a semi-final spot

Canberra HC came back from three goals down to snatch victory, from Harbourside, in the last seconds of the game, on Saturday at home, winning 26:25 (9:9 at the break).

With two games left to play, Canberra is now safe on the second spot behind Sydney Uni, and a slight chance of winning the premiership too.  The first two teams qualify directly into the semi-finals of the play-offs.

Harbourside seemed headed for victory when they went three goals in-front with less than ten minutes left in play and with three minutes on the clock Harbourside lead with two goals, 25:23.  Canberra keeper, Curtis Eitzen, then made two crucial saves to give Canberra a chance of a comeback and new-comer Tomasz Lasek made the best of the situation. Lasek hit with three consecutive goals, in the last two minutes, to give Canberra victory.

Left-wing, Lucas Frey was Harbourside’s best in attack, scoring 10 times out of 10 attempts at goal.

Canberra will now meet Hills’ top team Heat, next weekend in Sydney. Both Heat and Harbourside will now have to contest the quarter finals against the two top teams in Pool B.
