Canberra off to a winning start

Canberra HC is off to a good start in the 2010 edition of the NSW Handball league, edging out Hills Heat at home yesterday, in a defensive game: 26:24 (10:10 at the break).

The first half was dominated by strong defensive play from both teams and exceptional performances by the two opposing keepers, Robert Brucker of Hills and Canberra’s Curtis Eitzen.

The match went goal for goal up until the 50 minute mark when the scores were locked at 20 each. Then a double by Hills former player Richard Ridley put Canberra 2 in front, a lead Canberra managed to hold on to for the remaining ten minutes.

Canberra’s new arrival, Tommy Fletcher top scored with 7 goals but was out-done by Hills' Macedonian import Daniel Velickovski  who netted 9 at a100% rate.

Canberra will meet Sydney Uni Gold next week in Sydney.
