Canberra one step closer to a semi-final spot
Canberra went one step closer to a direct semi-final spot, on Saturday, defeating second division team Hills Blaze at home – 28:19 (14:8 at the break).
Blaze’s best moment in the game came midway through the second half, when left wing Luis Frey scored 4 consecutive goals to put his team within three goals of Canberra (22:19). That was also the last goal for Blaze as Canberra hit back with six unanswered goals to finish the game.
Canberra decided to start new-comer Tomasz Lasek on the left back position. The Polish national, who transferred to Canberra from English club Manchester HC, made an immediate impact scoring 8 goals and leading with assists. Captain Rob Lans was one of the players that benefited most from Lasek’s assists, also scoring 8 goals.
Canberra remains on the second spot, three points behind Sydney Uni but with one game in hand.
Canberra will host Harbourside next weekend at the Woden Basketball Centre, starting at 13:00. This will also be Canberra’s last home game for the season.
