The ACTHA was established in 1996 by a group of handball enthusiasts led by former National team captain Gerard Morrison.
Handball, in the ACT, remains a minority sport however, there is a growing demand in the region to provide more handball, especially in schools.
We are currently running a school program, in cooperation with the Australian Sports Commission’s ‘Active After-school Communities’ program.
ACT has been a regular at senior men's National Championships and has also appeared in a few women’s and junior tournaments. The best success for the state team was at the 2007 national Championships, held in Canberra, where our senior men won the silver medal.
The ACT is also represented in the NSW Men’s League through the Canberra Handball Club, which has finished 1st and 2nd in the League, in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
Last year, the ACTHA in cooperation with Netball ACT ran social competition attracting 12 teams and around 120 players.
This year we will try to make handball more accessible to everyone and work towards developing the sport further.
