Lans to represent Australia
Canberra's Robert Lans was one of 14 players named to represent Australia at the upcoming Tri Nations tournament in Turkey, starting on 21 April.
The tournament, organised by the Turkish Handball Federation, will bring together the national men's teams of Turkey, Australia and New Zealand. It aims to promote the relationship between the three handball federations but more importantly, the games will serve to commemorate the 1915 battle in Gallipoli and honour the friendship forged between the nations since the historic battle.
Lans has represented the ACT at the National Championships since 2006 but this is his first call-up to the Australian team. His selection comes at the back of a strong 2009 season for Canberra and ACT.
Also selected was NSW's Richard Ridley, who recently transferred to Canberra and will be playing for the club in the 2010 edition of the NSW League competition.
Canberra goalkeeper, Curtis Eitzen is one of three reserves named for the competition.
