Canberra defeated Hills Blaze 36:17, in Sydney yesterday, to stay on top of the league ladder with only two rounds left in the competition before the finals. Canberra’s strongest rivals, Sydney Uni Gold, also had a convincing win yesterday, overcoming Hills Heat 39:28.
Canberra will host Sydney Uni Gold in the last round of competition, in two weeks time, in the match that will decide the top spot on the ladder before the finals.
The Sydney Uni team is heading into the finals in full strength, with the return of their Norwegian stars, Håvard Tønnessen and Kenneth Tørlen, who took a break to travel home.
Canberra, who is yet to win over Sydney Uni Gold this year, has recruited six new players in the last four weeks. The latest inclusion, 16 year old Lucas Konradt, scored five goals from the pivot position yesterday, in his first appearance for the Canberra side.
Meanwhile, The NSW Handball Association will decide the future of the Harbourside team after they failed to show-up to yet another match. The team that is home to three national team members has now forfeited three games and are yet to play a Round 6 clash against Hills Heat that was mutually postponed.
