Zlatan debuts for Canberra
Canberra players welcomed Zlatan Ivankovic into the squad with another win over Hills Blaze (34:22) yesterday at Olympic Park. Canberra maintains a narrow one-point lead on the league ladder.
It was a much improved performance by the Hills team who went down to Canberra by 29 goals the last time the teams met, six weeks ago. Hills stayed in close contention well into the second half and at one stage trailed by only three goals.
Zlatan joins Canberra, Nena returns to action
Good news for Canberra, who are still rebuilding after losing several key players last season, playmaker Guilherme Nehme – Nena returned in the centre position. Nena missed the start of the season after traveling to Brazil to see his family.
Canberra also snapped up a veteran of the national team, Zlatan Ivankovic, who has just returned to Australia from Serbia. The 36 year old back was immediately thrown into action, leading in the assists and scoring 5 goals to start-off his campaign for Canberra.
It was Daniel Doring though, who lead Canberra with another strong performance, adding another ten goals to his season's tally. Daniel, who normally plays wing, has had to play most of the games from the back position.
In other matches, Sydney Uni Gold defeated Hills Heat 32:26. The second Uni team had to forfeit their encounter with Harbourside following the departure of many of their players to Italy to compete in the World University games.
Next week Canberra welcomes Harbourside.
