Krawczyk destroys Harbourside

Maciej Krawczyk scores for CanberraMaciej Krawczyk scored a record 21 goals as Canberra inflicted a twelve goal defeat on Harbourside at the Dural Sports Centre yesterday, winning 36:24.

Maciej’s goal-scoring spree is the best individual effort for Canberra so far.  This feat though, falls short of the NSW League record held by former national team star Milan Slavujevic, who scored 23 goals for Bonnyrigg White Eagles against North Sydney back in 1995.

Making his first appearance for Harbourside this season was national team right wing Bevan Calvert, who is back in Sydney for a short break, following another successful season in Denmark.

Bevan was immediately given the unfavorable task of marking out Canberra’s scoring sensation.  Maciej, who has become accustomed to this type of attention, was unfazed as he continued his onslaught on Harbourside’s goal.

In defence, Canberra stuck to the six-zero formation that has worked well for them so far. This suited Canberra’s rookie keeper Jaimie Richardson who made more than his fair share of saves to help his team stretch the lead.  Daniel Doring was Canberra’s stand-out defender keeping a tight grip on Anthony Deane, who had his first goal-less game this year.

Harbourside’s best performance came from right back Michael Thomas who scored ten goals. Michael, alongside several of his Harbourside team-mates, had taken leave from the weekend’s national team training camp to play this game. Many of the Australian squad members, who are preparing for the World Championships in Croatia, were also in the crowd enjoying game.
