UTS sink Canberra

Canberra’s woes continue with yet another loss today, going down 33:25 to UTS at the Woden Centre. The visitors were first to score but Canberra managed to keep up, goal for goal, well into the first half; then a series of Canberra mistakes put UTS on a six goal lead into the break.

After the break, Canberra managed to narrow the margin but could not come up with a solution to stop UTS key player Fabian Synneby who led with assists to Jan Kvas and national team back, Ognjen Matic - the three backs scoring 23 of UTS’s 33 goals.

For Canberra Daniel Doering was the stand-out player with nine goals, but is in doubt for next week’s game after sustaining an ankle injury near the end of the game. He will join captain Rob Lans, Xavier Orsatti and Zlatan Ivankovic on the growing injury list.

Key back Zlatan Ivankovic is expected to be back in the team in two weeks following surgery to fix the broken nose sustained in the game against Hills. Whilst right-back Xavier Orsatti is unlikely to get a start for another few weeks while he recovers from a broken finger.
