Uni Gold defeats Canberra

Canberra HC went down to Sydney Uni 27:21 (12:8 at the break), yesterday at Sydney Olympic Park.

Sydney Uni took the lead early on and maintained it comfortably for the entire match but had their keeper Tobias Lortz to thank, for making Canberra’s job even more difficult. The newly arrived keeper from Germany saved 6 consecutive penalties from Canberra and many more breakthrough attempts to keep Uni safely in-front.

Canberra’s only hope in the game came midway through the second half, when goals by Xavier Orsatti and Richard Ridley brought Canberra within three goals to 17:20. Sydney Uni though hit back immediately to put the game beyond reach.

For Canberra, national team back, Tommy Fletcher top scored again with 7 goals but this was also to be Tommy’s last game for the club. The twenty year old will return Sweden on Thursday to rejoin his former club.

Canberra will have another chance to avenge this defeat next weekend, again in Sydney, when the teams meet to play their postponed first round encounter.
